"Poignant, transporting, and gorgeous." ~ Morten Lauridsen
The Emerald Ensemble is a professional chamber choir featuring the finest voices in the Seattle area conducted by Dr. Gary D. Cannon. We sing music of all periods, with emphasis on classical choral repertoire. Beyond traditional concerts, we also aim to bring music directly to locations where the arts rarely extend, such as schools, prisons, hospice care facilities, or homeless shelters. Our mission is to help all people through great choral music presented with passion and skill.

The Emerald Ensemble sings a varied survey of two centuries of unaccompanied choral music by Danish composers. From the mid-Romantic era come five songs by Niels Gade. Carl Nielsen, the most renowned Danish composer, is represented by three partsongs and his choral masterwork, the Three Motets. Light-hearted music by Vagn Holmboe and experimental modernism of Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, plus a recent minimalist motet by Mette Nielsen, represent the variety of styles that have emerged from Denmark during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The concert includes both sacred and secular music, sung in Danish, German, English, Italian, and Latin.
This concert is presented by the Nordic Chamber Music series.

A chorus of sixteen singers will sing three works: Gabriel Fauré's sumptuous Pavane and two majestic but little-heard masterworks by Lili Boulanger. In addition, the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra will present music by Lalo and Ravel. The Emerald Ensemble's own Melissa Plagemann is the featured soloist for Ravel's Three Poems of Mallarmé.
