The six surviving motets of Johann Sebastian Bach have proven a cornerstone of the choral repertoire since they were published as a group, over a hundred years after their composition. These short works reveal Bach as history’s greatest contrapuntal craftsman. But beyond the intellectualism of their construction, the motets sparkle with the various facets of Bach’s passionate personality, from the somber to the ebullient.
